In this series I address the stigmas that surround mental illness, most specifically depression and suicide, in an attempt to normalize the difficulties faced by those with this disorder without victimization. As an artist, I have used the process of creating visual metaphors to express myself, as well as to cope with my own personal experiences with mental illness. By exposing these emotions in such a raw way, I hope to spark a new conversation that alters common stigmas that surround mental illness. In addition to changing the conversation, I also hope to provide comfort and solidarity to those who suffer from depression or have had thoughts of suicide. The analog printing technique for this series draws similarities between the imperfections, darkness, and ambiguities that are common in the analog printing process as well as in living with depression.
